Message From our Chair
Dear Friends:
It is with great pleasure being able to serve as the current chairwoman of the 2011 Alabama Gulf Coast Go Red for Women Symposium. It has given me the opportunity to learn the effects of heart disease within women. I am curious, how many of you think you know what those effects are within women?
I am delighted and honored to say that this year’s Go Red for Women Symposium is honoring Commissioner Connie Hudson for her past efforts in helping to fight heart disease in women. With that being said, I would like to personally invite you to attend this new and exciting event. With heart disease being the number one killer of women, the Go Red for Women event will empower and educate the women in our community about their heart health while raising funds for much needed research. Can you believe that a woman dies every 30 seconds from heart disease - don’t let it be you or someone you love!
We have made some exciting changes to this year’s event and hope that you will consider being a part of this life changing event! One of the major changes you may have already noticed is that the Go Red for Women event will no longer just be a luncheon, but rather an eventful symposium that includes wonderful educational opportunities as well as fun activities for you to enjoy with friends and colleagues.
Prior to the luncheon, there will be a series of break-out sessions and health screenings. The informative break-out sessions will include presentations from Leigh Parks of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney on personal finance, Dr. Michael B. Lyons of Lyons Cosmetic and Laser Surgery Center, The Delicious Dietician on healthy eating and nutrition and IP Casino Resort and Spa will share a wonderful exercise program that can be done at home for the busy woman. The free health screenings, provided by Providence Hospital, will include blood pressure, glucose, and body mass index and will provide an important opportunity for attendees to see where they stand in regards to their heart health.
Subsequent to these informative break-out sessions and health screenings, attendees will enjoy a delicious lunch created by the Riverview’s gourmet chef and a fashion show by Metzger’s highlighting all the latest fashions with accents in RED! And last but not least, our traditional and exciting red purse drawing will round out the luncheon and events of the day.
I am delighted about all the exciting changes to the upcoming Go Red for Women Symposium and I hope to see you at this life changing event as we honor Commissioner Hudson for her efforts in fighting heart disease and changing the lives of women today. The event will be held on National Wear Red Day, February 4th, 2011 beginning at 8am. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased by calling 251-648-8869 or visiting www.heart.org/algulfcoastgored. All proceeds benefit the American Heart Association. Please join us by wearing red and helping us in our fight against heart disease in women!
Thank You,
Sheila Dean-Rosenbohm
